To create the above image I first made a very basic birds eye plan so I could see how the shot would look, it changed a lot from the initial plan and i think it looked better in the way i created it. For perspective I also created a very basic cube layout in Maya.
After creating my final drawing in Photoshop I then moved onto creating this in 3D. Over the next 7 weeks I continued to model and texture my environment . I worked on both modeling and texturing at the same time as i didn't want to do a load of texturing at the end as i would of found this very tedious and it probably would of demotivated me and slowed my work. Im happy with my final render. To achieve it i used UV mapping for all the buildings and barrels, I also projection mapped the floor and background. To create the trees and grass i used Mayas built in paint-fx.
